Victor Valley 한인회 (Ko-Am Asso.)   Korean Cultural Festival   The U.S. Congress Declared JANUARY 13TH   AS KOREAN AMERICAN DAY   2005년 12월 19일 미 상하 합동 회의에서 1월 13일 을 한인의 날로 선포 했습니다 - 밝은 마을, 으뜸 시민이 되자 -   한인의 날 제정은 1903년1월 13일 한국인 102명이 처음으로 하와이에 상육한 날을 기념해서 정해 진 것이고 한인의날 제정에 주도 적인 일을 하신분은 미주한인제단 총회장 윤병욱 씨 와 한인의 날제정 위원회 위원장 해롤드 허씨등 여러분들이 계시고, 발의하신분은 Senator George Allen, Republican of Virginia, and Senator Richard Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, 입니다 한인의날 제정후 이날을 기념한 한국문화 축제 행사는 빅토밸리 한인회에서 하는 것입니다 다민족 이민으로 구정된 미국이 최초로 의회의 승인을 받아 1월 13일을 역사적인 한인의 날로 공식 선포하였고 이날를 기념 하여 주류 사화와 함께 한국 문화축제의 축포를 울리게 되었습니다 동포 여려분 ! 1월 20일 한국 문화의 축제는 단순한 축제의 의미를 넘어 한 세기의 새로운 도약의 지작을 알리는 여명의 북소리 인것입니다 다민족 이민으로 구성된 미연방 정부에서 최초로 어느 특정 민족의 날로 선포 해서 주류 사회와 함께 손에 손잡고 더불어 살아가게 하려는 미의회와 연방 정부의 새로운 시도에 우리 한인이 그 햇불을 높이 들고 역사의 현장으로 앞장서 진군 하고자 합니다 이러한 역사적인 현장에 여러 분을 초대 합니다 * 이지역 3개 시장 수퍼 바아져 언론 교육 종교계 등 미주류 사회 인사 600명이 참석 합니다 *총영사님을 비롯해서 남가주 단체장님들이 참석 합니다 *1500명분 식사가 준비 되어 있습니다 *오후 5~~7기 까지식사 사간입니다 *대회는 오후 7시 ~9시 -alaska-   Monday, December 19, 2005 Happy Korean-American Day: January 13th The Senate has joined the House in introducing a resolution declaring Korean-American Day. I also have a copy of the floor speech introducing the resolution, which actually mentions Michelle Wie by name, but because Dick Durbin gave it, my fingertips abruptly developed bleeding sores when I tried to cut and paste it. The resolution is better reading anyway. Whereas on January 13, 1903, the arrival of 102 pioneer immigrants to the United States initiated the first chapter of Korean immigration to the United States; Whereas members of the early Korean American community served with distinction in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War I, World War II, and the conflict in Korea; Whereas in the early 1950s, thousands of Koreans, fleeing from war, poverty, and desolation, came to the United States seeking opportunities; Whereas Korean Americans, like waves of immigrants to the United States before them, have taken root and thrived as a result of strong family ties, robust community support, and countless hours of hard work; Whereas the contributions of Korean Americans to the United States include the invention of the first beating heart operation for coronary artery heart disease, development of the nectarine, a 4-time Olympic gold medalist, and achievements in engineering, architecture, medicine, acting, singing, sculpture, and writing; The South Korean Embassy showed enough interest in the bill to e-mail to at least nine congressional staffers of Korean descent, pushing for the bill's passage: The resolution was referred to the Judiciary Committee and is currently awaiting further action. I would like to ask for your kind assistance on this resolution to expeditiously move for a final passage in the Senate. I certainly see nothing negative--in fact, nothing but good, and plenty of it--in the resolution itself, nor anything illegal about the embassy's lobbying, although I wonder if the embassy overestimates the extent of its influence over a particularly proud group of Americans whose political activities show a growing alienation from the views of South Korean politicians. In some ways, the rise of the reaction to Sunshine and human rights abuses in the North reflects the rise of Korean-Americans' political influence in the United States, and over Korea itself. If Korean-Americans complete their renaissance to become the conscience of the mother country, expect native Koreans to discover a bitter side of their feelings toward their American kin, and to denounce them for their very Americanness.
